DFCS – Spring Concert With Newberry College
Have you been with the Dutch Fork Choral Society from the very beginning? Or perhaps, you love music and are just looking for an outlet. In either case, it’s time to join (or rejoin or even just return for rehearsals) the Dutch Fork Choral Society.
Our Spring concert will include a collaboration with Newberry College, which promises to open all new possibilities. The preliminary music includes:
- Requiem by Heather Sorenson: This work was designed not only to live well in the concert hall, but also to transition into the church sanctuary. The composer’s trademark cinematic moments, soaring choral melodies, and impressionistic chord structures will highlight the vulnerable humanity that has become synonymous with her writings. This work is a combination of traditional Latin and English, with references to Scripture and hymn texts. Commissioned in honor of those lost during COVID, Requiem was written to bring hope and healing to all who have experienced loss. It is accompanied by full orchestra or chamber orchestra, includes soprano and tenor soloists, and is approximately 35 minutes in length.
- Ave Verum by W A Mozart: This edition is the first to provide a performing edition which is accurate in every detail to the original, which lets the user know that it is and which at the same time offers the opportunity of performing the work either with keyboard accompaniment alone or, as Mozart intended, with a small orchestral accompaniment containing a realized continuo part for organ.
- When The Saints Go Marching In, arranged by John Rutter: American traditional song.
Our first rehearsal is January 14, 2025. Our normal rehearsal times are 6:30-8:30PM at Mt. Horeb Lutheran Church. As you are able, please arrive at 6:15 for music distribution or to register, if you’re a new member.
For new members, we’d love to have you join us; register here.
